Job Description
This job is dedicated to realizing high-efficiency nonlinear optical photonic cavities based on two-dimensional (2D) materials. The role involves the theoretical design, fabrication, characterization, and testing of photonic cavities based on 2D materials. The primary objectives include:
1. Conduct fundamental and applied research on nonlinear optics in 2D-material systems. Explore novel 2D materials with intrinsically large nonlinear susceptibilities. Develop highly efficient optical nonlinear devices based on photonic cavity platform: By optimizing the design of the photonic cavities, achieve high-Q factor resonances at the pump or emission wavelengths of the nonlinear processes to boost the efficiency of the 2D-materials based nonlinear optical devices. The efficiency is expected to be comparable to that of traditional bulk nonlinear crystals.
2. Design and fabricate photonic cavity devices such as metasurfaces, photonic crystals and Fabry-Pérot cavities, implementing state-of-the-art simulation tools and cleanroom processing technologies. Conduct systematic experimental characterization to evaluate device performance parameters such as fabrication defect density, quality factor, and operational stability. Optimize the coupling efficiency between the photonic cavities with 2D materials.
3. Develop tunable polarization-dependent nonlinear optical devices based on photonic cavities. By exploring novel anisotropic 2D materials, achieve polarization-dependent nonlinear optical response. By further employing electro-optic or all-optical modulation methods, dynamically control the nonlinear susceptibility tensors of 2D materials integrated with photonic cavities, and manipulate both the intensity and polarization state of the nonlinear photons.
Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth theoretical and experimental expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge in nonlinear optics, nanophotonics, photonic cavities, 2D materials and related fields.
Candidates with practical experience in designing, fabricating and characterizing nonlinear photonic cavities is preferred.
Qualifications
1. PhD degree in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or relevant areas with a strong background in nonlinear optics, 2D materials and photonic cavities.
2. Working experience and knowledge in the field of nonlinear optics, nanophotonics, 2D materials, and nanofabrication.
3. Mathematics and specific knowledge required in nonlinear optics, electromagnetic theory of nanophotonics and plasmonics.
4. Technical proficiency:

• numerical modeling and analysis experience of photonic cavities with appropriate software;

• design and optimization experience of photonic cavities, including design of photonic cavities with high Q-factors, multi-resonances, and tailored nonlinear susceptibilities.

• experimental experience in optical characterization, including nonlinear optics, angle-resolved transmission/reflection, Raman and photoluminescence measurement.

• Nanofabrication skills for cavity fabrication, including electron-beam lithography, reactive-ion etching and electron-beam evaporation.
5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
6. Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed International Journals in the field of nonlinear optics and 2D materials.
7. Open to Fixed Term Contract.
