Job Description
">The Marine Superintendent will be responsible for:
- Assisting Masters in implementing our Management System onboard vessels. ">
- Supporting the Head Of Marine in all marine-related matters. ">
- Conducting regular marine visits and audits to monitor vessel compliance and operational standards. ">
- Ensuring navigational and cargo handling procedures are aligned with international regulations, local requirements, and company policies. ">
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing the Company's Safety Management System (SMS) and contributing to its enhancement. ">
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring procedural compliance onboard and ashore. ">
- Participating in the review and development of safety management procedures, checklists, and forms. ">
- Ensuring vessels are fully prepared for third-party inspections such as port state control, class surveys, etc. ">
- Attending and supporting vessels during critical inspections and onboard assessments when required. ">
- Following up on inspection and audit observations, ensuring timely closure and reporting. ">
- Arranging and performing planned and ad-hoc marine visits, audits, navigational audits, and behavioral safety assessments. ">
- Conducting officer briefings and debriefings, interviews, and onboard coaching for Masters and senior officers. ">
- Identifying training needs based on audit findings and conducting training during shipboard visits. ">
- Promoting awareness of charter party requirements among ship staff, especially Masters and Chief Officers. ">
- Reviewing ship performance reports, navigational audits, and Letters of Protest (LOP) from terminals. ">
- Ensuring navigational charts and publications are up-to-date and properly maintained onboard. ">
- Monitoring and reviewing terminal satisfaction reports and addressing recurring issues proactively. ">
- Promoting onboard awareness of safety, pollution prevention, security, and energy efficiency. ">
- Leading and supporting incident investigations and ensuring timely closure of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). ">
- Ensuring enforcement of navigational bridge procedures and high standards in cargo operations. ">
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent, Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner) preferred. ">
- Minimum 8-10 years of sea service, including 2 years as Master on ocean-going vessels. ">
- 1-3 years of experience in a shore-based marine operations or HSSEQ role in a ship management or shipping company. ">
- Familiar with ISM/ISPS codes, MLC, and other IMO regulations. ">
- Exposure to vetting inspections, PSC, terminal operations, and cargo handling procedures. ">
- Experience in conducting navigational audits, officer briefings, managing inspections, implementing safety initiatives, and contributing to incident investigations. ">
- Fluent English language skills. ">
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. ">

">- Timely Completion of Marine Visits: ≥ 95% visits completed as per schedule. ">
- Closure of Audit & Inspection Findings: 100% of findings closed within 30 days. ">
- Improvement in Navigational Deficiency Rate: ≤ 3 major findings per year across managed vessels. ">
- Audit Preparedness Score: ≥ 90% inspection readiness score per visit. ">
- Crew Briefing & Interviews Conducted: ≥ 90% of targeted pre-joining briefings completed. ">
- Timeliness of Documentation & Reporting: 100% of reports submitted within 3 working days. ">
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
">- Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner) preferred. ">
