Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our team in a project focused on next-generation nonlinear metasurfaces based on 2D materials. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the design, fabrication, and characterization of cutting-edge photonic devices. This role involves:Conducting fundamental and applied research on nonlinear optics in two-dimensional (2D) material systems, with a specific focus van der Waals materials. Designing and optimizing novel photonic metasurfaces to achieve high-quality factor (Q) resonances, specifically leveraging quasi-bound states in the continuum (qBIC), to dramatically enhance light-matter interactions. This includes tailoring geometric parameters to precisely tune the resonance wavelengths. Developing and implementing novel designs that utilize twist engineering in stacked 2D material homostructures to improve nonlinear conversion efficiency. Performing hands-on nanofabrication of complex nanostructures using advanced lithography and etching techniques. Setting up and conducting detailed optical characterization, including Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion (SPDC) measurements, to achieve and analyze record-high conversion efficiencies and photon-pair generation rates. Contributing to high-impact publications and collaborating with a world-class team of researchers. Considering the above research targets, the candidate should possess in-depth theoretical and experimental expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge in nonlinear optics, nanophotonics, quantum photonics, 2D materials and related fields. Candidates with practical experience in designing, fabricating and characterizing nonlinear photonics is preferred. Qualifications 1. PhD degree in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Quantum Photonics or relevant areas with a strong background in nonlinear optics, 2D materials and photonics. 2. Extensive working experience and hands-on knowledge in the field of nonlinear optics, nanophotonics (specifically metasurfaces and membranes), and nanofabrication. This includes a demonstrated track record of designing, fabricating, and characterizing devices based on van der Waals materials. 3. Mathematics and specific knowledge required in nonlinear optics, electromagnetic theory of nanophotonics. This should include specific expertise in principles like quasi-bound state in continuum (qBIC), and the ability to work with concepts such as field confinement. 4. Technical proficiency: 1) numerical modeling and analysis experience of photonic cavities with appropriate software; 2) design and optimization experience of metasurfaces, including design of metasurfaces with high Q-factors, multi-resonances, and enhanced nonlinear conversion efficiencies. 3) experimental experience in optical characterization, including nonlinear optics, angle-resolved transmission/reflection, Raman and photoluminescence and quantum related measurement. 4) Nanofabrication skills for nanostructure fabrication, including electron-beam lithography, reactive-ion etching and electron-beam evaporation. 5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams. 6. Candidate should have strong publication records in reputed International Journals in the field of nonlinear optics and quantum photonics. 7. Open to Fixed Term Contract.
