The
Financial Controller Asia Pac
oversees the financial operations of MS Amlin Underwriting Limited (MSAUL) Asia Pac, including business booked in Syndicate 2001 and the Australia Branch. This role is key for maintaining accurate financial reporting, managing internal controls, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting financial decision-making. Reporting directly to the CEO Asia Pac and matrixed to the
MSAUL Finance Controller
and
MSAUL Chief Financial Officer , the Financial Controller Asia Pac drives financial strategy and operations, ensuring effective financial control, risk management, and operational efficiency. The role is responsible for the accuracy of financial results for the region and the management company, requiring collaboration with London finance, actuarial, FP&A, capital, and investment teams, as well as underwriting, claims, operations, and IT departments.
About The Job
Key responsibilities include:
Financial & Analysis:
Oversee the preparation of timely financial reports, ensure compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS17, and MAS reporting, collaborate with FP&A for analysis and forecasting, and manage Oracle ledger use.
Financial Controls & Governance:
Establish internal controls, implement financial policies, liaise with internal and external auditors, and ensure compliance with standards.
Team Management:
Supervise and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture, and resource allocation.
Strategic Financial Planning:
Support the CEO in financial strategy, provide insights, prepare reports for Exco and Board, and monitor industry changes impacting accounting and business records.
Minimum Requirements:
ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification
Relevant experience in financial management, preferably in insurance or financial services
Knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulations
Experience with ledger management, reporting, and audit relationships
Strong MAS reporting background
Skills in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Leadership in managing finance teams
Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
Preferred Attributes:
Experience in Lloyd's insurance environment
Knowledge of IFRS 17, Solvency II, and insurance risk management
Additional Skills:
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Strategic thinking, adaptability, and integrity
Working Conditions:
Full-time, office-based with occasional travel
Possible outside hours during audits or financial periods
