Associate Director, Industry Partnerships, OIE
Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies to grow SMU's research partnerships across the public, private, and people sectors, aligning with SMU's research priorities.
Identify, assess, and pursue strategic engagement opportunities to expand SMU's research impact.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Schools, Offices, Centres, and Institutes (SOCIs), to support impactful research collaborations.
Coordinate with SOCI-level partnerships teams to align efforts and scale research engagement efforts university-wide.
Develop positioning strategies and key value propositions to communicate SMU's research capabilities externally.
Organize and support partnerships initiatives and events to facilitate knowledge sharing and engagement.
Track, report, and evaluate research partnership activities using metrics and dashboards.
Represent OIE at meetings, events, and engagements to advance SMU's research partnership agenda.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; postgraduate degree is an advantage.
8-10 years of relevant experience.
Experience in research partnerships or within a research-intensive/higher education environment is highly desirable.
Proven ability in building partnerships and strategic collaborations, preferably in higher education or research sectors.
Strong understanding of the higher education landscape and stakeholder engagement.
Experience in strategic planning, aligning initiatives with organizational goals.
Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Knowledge of industry partnership dimensions, including IP, technology transfer, grants, and philanthropic development.
Ability to synthesize complex ideas and deliver compelling presentations.
Strong problem-solving, multi-tasking, and analytical skills.
Resourceful, independent, and a team player with collaborative skills.
Other Information
Candidates with relevant experience but without all stipulated qualifications may still apply. Remuneration will be commensurate with experience. SMU reserves the right to modify appointment terms.
