What the role is:
Singapore is one of the fastest-ageing countries in the world. By 2030, around 1 in 4 Singaporeans will be aged 65 and above. This demographic shift will have profound implications on Singapore and create an increased demand on our existing healthcare system. As Senior Manager / Manager / Assistant Manager with the Ageing Planning Office, you will be part of the team to define, plan and execute whole-of-government and national strategies in response to the needs of Singapore’s ageing population. Specifically, you will be part of the Active Ageing team to promote healthy and meaningful longevity for seniors, to alleviate ageing-related challenges and enable them to age actively and healthily in communities. You will be working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that would require the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders, such as public agencies, community and industry partners, at the same time.
What you will be working on:
You will play an active role in implementing the initiatives under the 2023 Action Plan for Successful Ageing and Age Well SG, whole-of-society efforts to redefine ageing as a positive force. You will be involved in spearheading the national agenda and policy direction to drive active ageing efforts in Singapore. Examples include:
Dementia, to improve the current landscape by addressing challenges such as in building capacity and capability, enhancing awareness and reducing stigmatisation, and improving care and support services for persons living with dementia and their caregivers.
Research and development, to spur innovation in ageing, support test-bedding and scaling up of innovative solutions.
Senior volunteerism, to empower seniors to continue contributing to society while staying active and meaningfully engaged.
What we are looking for:
Requirements:
Tertiary education in any discipline.
Preferably at least 3-4 years of relevant experience and knowledge in areas such as policy formulation, project management, research strategy and operationalising and implementing programmes.
Passion for working with citizens, including seniors and community partners.
Ability to work independently and as a team.
Highly driven with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and dynamic work environment which requires critical thinking and decision-making skills.
As part of the shortlisting process for this role, candidates may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.
Key Competencies Required:
Thinking Clearly & Making Sound Judgements – Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to support the crafting of sound policy recommendations; ability to grasp timelines, operating context and ground realities.
Learning & Putting Skills into Action - Possesses the drive and curiosity to learn and apply new skills, knowledge and new ways of working.
Improving & Innovating – Ability to seek continual improvements, and to innovate and experiment while managing the risks involved.
Working Effectively with Stakeholders – Ability to mobilise and rally partners and stakeholders towards a collective purpose.
About Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health’s (MOH) vision is to champion a healthy nation with our people – to live well, live long and with peace of mind. As an open country constantly exposed to an interconnected world, Singapore faces complex issues in public healthcare. MOH constantly grapples with new challenges brought on by an increasingly globalised world, a rapidly ageing population and rising expectations. MOH’s responses to these challenges include preventing and managing the outbreak of diseases such as SARS and Influenza A (H1N1), designing a healthcare system that delivers care in an integrated and effective manner, growing the capacity and capabilities within the sector, and managing healthcare inflation. As an MOH officer, you will be involved in formulating and implementing policies that guide Singapore’s healthcare ecosystem. You will work alongside a team with varied skills and backgrounds, but with the common goals of (i) promoting good health and reducing illnesses; (ii) ensuring that Singaporeans have access to good and affordable healthcare; and (iii) pursuing medical excellence. Your work will have far-reaching impact on the health and lives of Singaporeans.
