Description of Role, Key Duties and Responsibilities (i) As a Shipbroker, you may cover many disciplines, such as sale and purchase, dry cargo broking, tanker broking or container broking. However, it is more commonplace for Shipbrokers to specialize in one particular area.(ii) Typical responsibilities of a Shipbroker would involve marketing of tonnage (ships) to customers/shippers/charterers. Negotiate spot/time charters to achieve maximum income for the owners(iii) You would maintain records or tonnage within the company's database(iv) A Shipbroker is involved in many stages of setting up and negotiating deals, including presenting the business to potential clients, negotiating the main terms of a contract or sale, and seeing it through to its conclusion and any follow-up that may be involved(v) Like any role that involves buying and selling, a good Shipbroker would build up a database of contacts and keep a close eye on the shipping market, interpreting trends and seeing opportunities for clients.Duties and responsibilities will include: (i) Highlighting fixture opportunities to clients;(ii) Developing/expanding a client base;(iii) Understanding the business strategy for the tankers division and seeking to identify new business opportunities relating to trends, future markets, products and clients;(iv) Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the market space;(v) Performing market analysis and providing market insight and trade ideas to clients;(vi) Working with other members of the Arrow team across the division and internationally to meet client needs;(vii) Servicing and developing client relationships, including by providing valuable and frequent communications with clients;(viii) Assisting with charter parties and issuing recaps relating to charters for the transport of cargos on vessels.(ix) Developing and executing business strategies to achieve short and long-term goals(x) Able to identify opportunities for growth, and assist with recruitment training and onboarding processes.Skills and Experience The role of shipbroker will require the following skills:(i) Being able to operate in a dynamic environment;(ii) Being personable and able to maintain good client relationships(iii) Excellent negotiation skills(iv) Fluency in English(v) Being driven and motivated(vi) Being professional, confident, enthusiastic and detail-oriented;(vii) Having excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills;(viii) Having the ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and be resourceful;(ix) Having good organisational skills(x) Ability to work within a team.(xi) Minimum 5-10 years of proven track recordsIn addition: 1. Knowledge and experience is required in/of(i) The maritime/shipping sector(ii) Physical shipbroking and associated practices(iii) Gas trading; and(iv) IT systems commonly used by shipbrokers.2. A university degree.
