The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in the rigorous analysis of geoeconomic trends, as well as in conducting in-depth research and strategic planning to support emerging economic sectors. This role is pivotal in shaping Singapore's economic strategy – supporting leadership decision making by identifying opportunities and risks for Singapore’s economy. It advances our understanding of our evolving operating environment through the analysis of global geoeconomic and technology trends. Through methodologies such as scenario planning, we help decision makers make sense of an uncertain and volatile operating environment, question underlying assumptions, and develop future-proof strategies. Industry development is vital to Singapore’s continued success because it drives economic growth, creates job opportunities and ensures that Singapore remains competitive. In this position, you will have the opportunity to impact Singapore's economic direction and contribute to shaping our future by identifying and incubating new growth areas, such as sub-sectors within Sustainability, Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacturing. What you will be working on: Regular horizon scanning to better understand our evolving operating context Conducting in-depth research and analysis of geoeconomic trends, new growth areas, and emerging technologies, and translating insights into high-level recommendations Collaborating closely with different economic agencies and thought leaders to craft medium-to-long term economic strategies Building capabilities and fostering community through organising workshops and roundtables on futures and strategy Developing and continuously refining the processes, tools and methodologies for horizon scanning and futures thinking, leveraging AI and digital tools to enhance the team’s capabilities What we are looking for: Preferably at least 2 years of relevant work experience in either the public or private sector Interest in and understanding of emerging industries, technologies and geoeconomic trends Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills Keen business acumen with strong analytical skills High competency in data and numerical literacy to support in-depth evaluations Demonstrated experience in utilising AI and digital tools to streamline processes and enhance decision-making capabilities Strong relationship-building capabilities with both internal and external stakeholders A self-starter mindset, exemplified by high initiative and resourcefulness in solving new problems Good leadership and project management skills to steer complex projects to success A background in science, technology, engineering, economics, politics and/or international affairs would be advantageous.
