Research Fellow (Thermal photonics, Nanophotonics, Metasurface physics, Chiral photonics)Join us at National University of Singapore to explore novel physical mechanisms in nanophotonic structures and their applications in controlling thermal emission. Responsibilities The position involves the theoretical design, fabrication, characterization, and testing of thermal emitters based on new nanostructures. Key objectives include: Exploring novel physical mechanisms and topological protection properties in nonlocal metasurfaces to achieve narrow‐band thermal emission with near‐unity emissivity and topological robustness. Designing dual‐layer or multi‐layer waveguide‐coupled metasurfaces in the mid‐infrared to realize rainbow‐free, polarization‐selective coherent thermal emission. Combining anisotropic structures with temperature‐tunable thermo‐optic materials and phase‐change materials (PCMs) for dynamic polarization control at a single frequency. Developing mid‐infrared photonic devices using geometric phase, diffractive optics, and related techniques to enhance emission power and enable practical applications such as miniature bulbs for NDIR systems and efficient gas detection. Qualifications A PhD in Optics, Physics, or related fields with a strong background in coherent thermal emission, metasurface physics, and chiral photonics. Experience in thermal photonics, nanophotonics, material growth, and nanofabrication. Strong mathematical and specialized knowledge in electromagnetic theory, optical coherence theory, and thermal photonics. Technical proficiency in numerical modelling and optimisation of photonic devices, optical characterisation (thermal emission spectroscopy, angle‐resolved measurements), and nanofabrication techniques such as electron‐beam lithography, reactive‐ion etching, and electron‐beam evaporation. A strong publication record in renowned international journals in thermal emission and nanophotonics. Open to a fixed‐term contract.
