Senior Research Fellow/ Research Fellow (Society & Culture) - Two-year/ Three-year contract

The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is a policy research think-tank in the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. IPS is looking to hire two Senior Research Fellows/ Research Fellows for its Society and Culture department on a two-year/ three-year contract. The main responsibilities of the Senior Research Fellows/ Research Fellows are to contribute to and manage research projects. These include coordinating data collection efforts, editing books and writing monographs, organising conferences and presenting findings to policymakers and other stakeholders. The Senior Research Fellows/ Research Fellows will have the opportunity to develop and contribute to current and future research areas being developed at IPS.The job scope includes:

- Leading research studies to support evidence-driven policy development in the public and people sectors of Singapore
- Setting research agendas
- Presenting research work to internal and external stakeholders through research papers, policy briefs, journals and opinion editorials
- Editing books and writing monographs
- Undertaking administrative duties such as developing and facilitating research conferences, workshops and closed-door discussionsApplicants must:

- Have a Doctorate Degree in the Social Sciences or a related field from a reputed university
- Possess a strong understanding of social and cultural issues in Singapore (examples include but are not limited to social inclusion, identity, gender, mental health, citizen engagement and the arts)
- Have a good track record in research, field work and data analysis (a strong background in statistics would be an advantage)
- Have a credible body of published work and is developing a publication record in the English language
- Have strong English communication skills
- Be able to work independently and with others in a team

What you can expect from the job:
The Senior Research Fellows/Research Fellows will have the opportunity to work in a research team which examines social inclusion, cohesion and identity issues (such as those mentioned in the above). Researchers in the department work on a variety of projects initiated by the Institute, the government and the non-profit sector, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The Senior Research Fellows/Research Fellows will work with the department head to initiate projects, seek funding for them, operationalise the projects and report on the outcomes. There are opportunities to publish the work on a diverse range of platforms - from those associated with the Institute and the School, to other academic or professional platforms.
