We are hiring Production Engineers in our Hong Kong office. Jane Street Production Engineers are software developers who spend time both developing software and providing high-quality support for critical software systems that support Jane Street's trading business.
Many of our Production Engineers are embedded within various software teams; others work in standalone teams. In both cases, we collaborate with application developers to create and maintain robust software systems. We are strong proponents of functional programming, primarily using OCaml.
Production Engineers play a vital role interacting across departments, solving real-time issues, and impacting the firm-wide operations. They take ownership of the architecture and design of systems that monitor and support trading activities, and develop tools that enhance these systems, providing a sense of ownership and achievement.
How is a Production Engineer role different from a typical Software Engineering role?
As Production Engineers:
We balance our time between OCaml software development and support rotations, actively resolving live issues in critical systems.

We spend less total coding time due to support duties, but find fulfillment in adding value through support and problem-solving.
