Project Mechanic – Marine Works

Roles & Responsibilities About the role McConnell Dowell is seeking to hire a Mechanic for our marine project to ensure our marine plant operates safely and reliably in Changi. You’ll own inspections and records in Upvise, deliver preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy plant and portable equipment, and respond to breakdowns to keep construction moving. Transport pick‑up from Tanah Merah MRT and an alternate 6-day work week (with 7:00 am start) Key responsibilities of the role include; Inspections, Compliance & Upvise Conduct daily pre‑start inspections of all MCD plant and equipment via Upvise; capture defects and assign actions. Perform portable electrical & mechanical equipment inspections (incl. test‑and‑tag) through Upvise; training provided. Carry out Monthly and Incoming/Acceptance inspections (newly mobilised/returned plant), recording baseline hours and condition. Coordinate statutory/third-party inspections and maintain certificates/registers with due dates in Upvise. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Execute PM services per OEM intervals (filters, fluids, belts, hoses, seals, calibrations). Diagnose and repair diesel, hydraulic/pneumatic, and electrical systems and controls. Service typical marine‑site plant: crawler/mobile cranes, generators, pumps, compressors, welding sets, hydraulic power packs, vibratory/impact piling hammers, winches, and small tools. Support commissioning/de-commissioning, preservation, and lay‑up of plant. Breakdown Response & Reliability Provide front-line breakdown response during site hours (and rostered call-out when required). Lead basic root‑cause analysis for repeat failures and implement corrective actions and reliability improvements. Spares, Tools & Vendors Manage critical spares/consumables and minimum stock levels; raise requisitions and verify deliveries. Maintain tool condition & calibration (torque wrenches, gauges, meters) with an auditable schedule. Liaise with OEMs/service vendors and supervise contractor works on MCD plant. Safety, Environment & Quality Prepare maintenance JSAs/Method Statements for non‑routine tasks; apply LOTO, hot‑work, confined‑space and working‑at‑height controls. Manage fuels, oils, coolants: safe transfers, bunding, spill kits, waste segregation and disposal. Implement corrosion‑control suited to marine conditions (washdowns, marine‑grade lubricants/protectants). Keep records, checklists, test results complete, legible and audit‑ready. Training & Reporting Coach operators on daily care/pre‑starts, fluid checks and early defect reporting. Support Upvise use (forms, photos, action assignment). Issue weekly/monthly equipment condition and downtime reports (hours, causes, upcoming PM). Project Interface Support mobilisation/demobilisation, acceptance checks, and barge/quayside set-ups. Coordinate equipment moves, barge deck layouts and power/welding distribution to minimise downtime. Any other duties as may be required by the Company. About You To be considered for this role, you will have NITEC/Higher NITEC/Diploma in Mechanical or related trade. 5+ years in heavy plant maintenance (construction/marine preferred) with strong diagnostics on diesel & hydraulics. Hands-on, comfortable outdoors and on barges/quayside; sound knowledge of safe isolation and permits. Digital mindset — confident using apps like Upvise (training provided). Clear communicator; works well with operators, riggers, supervisors and vendors. Willing to support after‑hours call‑outs on rotation. Able to work an alternate 6‑day work week; typical 7:00 am start; transport pick‑up at Tanah Merah MRT.
