Network Operations Engineer

Overview of the Role:

  • A network operations engineer applies company policies and procedures to resolve various issues.
  • They work on problems of moderate scope, receiving general instructions on routine work and detailed instructions on new projects.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in production network and internet peering strategies.
  2. Experience with networking technologies relative to content delivery network, monitoring capacity, and peering traffic.
  3. Day-to-day activities involve working on multiple vendor servers and various software and hardware issues.
  4. Working with multiple TAC vendors to fix hardware issues.
  5. Handle traffic and any other queries raised by ISP/partners.
  6. Capable of driving the first level of escalations reported by the team.
  7. Capability to prepare both technical and process MOPs and circulate them with other team leads.
  8. Support team in handling network and traffic peering for any layer 1 to layer 3 issues.
  9. Capability to drive data insights and report them as required.
  10. Participating in multiple meetings and providing weekly presentations related to network performance and escalations.
  11. Work with ISP/vendors on fixing any issues related to network.
  12. Jointly working with regional and other region team leads.
  13. Participate in 24/7 support with other teams across the globe. Some weekend work may be required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S/B.A) from a reputable college or university and 7+ years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Builds productive internal and external working relationships.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Understanding of network and traffic peering.
  • Understanding of fiber-optic technology, including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies will be an advantage.
  • Understanding of preparing root cause analysis for any network and server outages.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to work with service providers, colocation facilities, and ISPs around the world.
  • Knowledgeable about different network protocols like OSPF/ISIS and BGP.
  • Know-how knowledge about DWDMs involving multiple vendors like Ciena, Infinera, and Cisco NCS.
  • Knowledgeable on layer 1-3 troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a multi-vendor network environment.
  • Network certifications. CCNP/JNCIP preferred.
  • Any expertise in the field of optical is a plus.
