Job Title: Freight Market Specialist

Description:
  • We are seeking a skilled professional to manage and execute all aspects of freight trading, including pricing negotiation, contract execution, and market research.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Pricing and Rate Negotiation:
    • Establish strong relationships with internal traders, vessel owners, and brokers to determine fair market prices;
    • Negotiate freight rates and contractual terms;
  • Conduct thorough research on the freight market to accurately assess freight levels and project future demand;
  • Provide valuable insights on grain and bulk flows, as well as competitor and supplier activities, to inform business decisions;
  • Freight Contract Execution:
    • Ensure timely and accurate entry of sales and purchases into the contract module;
    • Closely collaborate with Freight Operations to stay informed about itineraries, stow plans, and voyage execution PnLs;
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations;

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Research and evaluate trading partners based on factors such as price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production, distribution capabilities, reputation, and history;
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices through ongoing training and professional development;
  • Manage and analyze data in the freight system to inform business decisions;
Requirements:
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in a relevant field such as finance, economics, mathematics, or engineering;
  • 4+ years of experience in dry commodities or supra/handy/panamax desk;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with proficiency in another language desirable;
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment;
  • Self-motivated and assertive individual with high emotional intelligence;
Working Conditions:
  • Fast-paced trading-floor environment requiring adaptability and flexibility;
  • Business travel may be required;
