Chemical Process Specialist

The role of a chemical technician involves overseeing and monitoring chemical production activities within a plant. The primary objective is to manufacture products in accordance with set production schedules and adhere to required standards of quality while ensuring the process operates safely, efficiently, and responsibly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate various streams of the plant for their specific processes.
- Each of these processes encompasses several activities, including handover checks, documentation, pre and post-batch cleaning of vessels and lines, pre-batch checks, charging of vessels either manually or via a pump, post-charging checks, adjusting and monitoring process conditions as required, and taking corrective action when necessary.
- Obtain, follow, and complete process-related documentation.
- Carry out routine sampling and bulk packing and testing of samples as required.
- Recognize the end point of the reaction and adjust process parameters to stop the reaction.
- Transfer product to the next stage.
- Comply with HSE and quality policies and defined procedures. Identify and report any unsafe conditions or acts/procedures requiring correction.
- Record all operational and analytical data on appropriate documents and inform the Shift Supervisor of any process abnormalities.
- Maintain accurate labelling of all documents, bags, and vessels at all times.
- Request and collect raw materials and consumables, observe clean area procedures, monitor raw materials stock, and notify the Shift Supervisor of any abnormalities.
- Notify the Shift Supervisor of requirements for maintenance, prepare equipment before maintenance work, depressurize, clean lines and equipment, de-energize, LOTO etc.
- Perform basic maintenance of equipment using tools such as TPM.
- Provide on-the-job training of other Chemical Technicians upon request from the Shift Supervisor, incorporating cGMP and safety procedures.
- Adhere to cGMP and Health & Safety rules and regulations at work at all times according to Company-set standards.
- Be aware of the potentially hazardous nature of chemicals in the area and take appropriate precautions when using them.
- Maintain housekeeping of the plant and provide suggestions for improvement.
- Operate ancillary facilities such as water systems, tank farms, solvent recovery, salt crushing activities, etc.
- Minimum NITEC or Higher NITEC qualification in Chemical Processing or related fields.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks including lifting materials up to 25kg weights.
- Medically fit to be part of the Company's firefighter CERT team.
- Capable of utilizing process control systems for the operation of plant equipment.
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment operations (reactors, centrifuges, filters, dryers, etc.).
- Knowledge and application of GMP in manufacturing processes.
- Able to identify and manage potential hazards in the biopharmaceutical plant environment.
