Steel Erector Job Description

As a steel erector, you will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity of buildings and other large structures.

This involves reviewing technical plans drawn by architects and engineers to ensure compliance with relevant building codes and regulations. You will also plan project assembly, cutting and shaping steel to precise specifications, operating hand and power tools to precision cut materials, installing and fixing together steel girders, pipework, and beam sections to create a strong steel framework.

You will work on-site, often at height, using elevated work platforms and scissor lifts to access areas that require attention. Additionally, you may need to lay metal decking, fix safety netting and edge rails, lift and guide components into position with tower cranes, line up and level steelwork before bolting it in place, and multitask to meet tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing technical plans and specifications
  • Planning and coordinating project assembly
  • Cutting and shaping steel to precise specifications
  • Installing and fixing steel girders, pipework, and beam sections
  • Working at height using elevated work platforms and scissor lifts
  • Laying metal decking
  • Fixing safety netting and edge rails
  • Lifting and guiding components into position with tower cranes
  • Line up and levelling steelwork before bolting it in place
  • Multitasking to meet tight deadlines

The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work under pressure, and strong communication skills. They must also be physically fit and able to work at heights safely.
