The Facility Operations Manager role is critical in supporting the R&D and operational requirements of the nation's defence against hazardous substances.

A motivated and technically skilled individual will lead the team in managing the maintenance of facilities to ensure reliability and availability. They will also provide a safe and secure working environment for laboratory users.

This includes:

  • Overseeing the maintenance of facilities to ensure safety, security and availability of operations
  • Developing preventive maintenance strategies and driving cost effectiveness of maintenance activities
  • Managing contractor contracts, reviewing contractor performance and resolving conflicts with contractors
  • Planning and leading technical upgrades and additions to meet long-term requirements
  • Driving digitalisation and automation of facility operations
  • Leading a maintenance team in facility operations and planning team members' duty rosters
  • Curating training plans for team members to maintain proficiency in high-containment laboratories
  • Managing maintenance budgets

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Degree or Diploma in Facility Management or Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge in biological, chemical and radiological-safety including authority code requirements
  • Experience in designing, developing or managing a BSL-3 facility or other mission-critical facilities
  • Experience in managing teams of contractors
  • Familiarity with computerised facility management tools
  • Familiarity with concept of operations for high-containment facilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites
  • Good communication and people skills in managing contractors and laboratory users
  • Proficiency in data analytics
