Junior Horticulturist

The role of Junior Horticulturist involves supporting the Master Grower in maintaining optimal growing conditions and plant health within the controlled environment agriculture facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transplanting seedlings from the propagation area into growth systems, ensuring a seamless transition for the plants.
  • Seeding certain direct-sowed crops based on planting schedules to maintain a consistent harvest cycle.
  • Monitoring plant growth and reporting any signs of pest, disease, nutrient deficiencies, or other issues to the Master Grower in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with the preparation of nutrient solutions and adjusting EC/pH levels as directed by the Master Grower.
  • Performing regular maintenance on hydroponic systems, including checking pumps, lines, timers, and other equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collecting plant measurement data, such as height, width, leaf health, and inputting it into tracking software to monitor growth patterns.
  • Assisting with harvest operations, including cutting, trimming, weighing, and packing produce to meet quality standards.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the growing area to prevent contamination and optimize productivity.
  • Familiarizing oneself with safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participating in on-the-job training to develop knowledge of horticultural principles, plant health, and CEA technologies.

Requirements:

  • No prior experience is required, but an interest in horticulture and a willingness to learn are essential.
  • A basic understanding of plant biology and crop production is beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills are necessary for monitoring plant growth and detecting potential issues.
  • The ability to work on one's feet for extended periods and use tablets, smartphones, and computers to input data is crucial.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required to collaborate with colleagues and report progress to the Master Grower.
