Singapore beBeeMaterial Full time $80,000 - $120,000

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Nanyang Technological University Singapore is seeking a highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral researcher or recent PhD graduate to join our team.

The successful candidate will lead research on next-generation solar harvesting materials, focusing on developing and optimizing synthesis methods for novel inorganic nanoparticles and quantum dots designed for solar-to-energy conversion, including photovoltaics and solar fuel generation. A strong background in inorganic synthesis, materials science, and materials physics is essential.

The candidate will work collaboratively across disciplines to advance renewable energy technologies and support the university's mission for sustainable global impact.

Job Responsibilities

Develop and implement advanced chemical synthesis techniques such as hot-injection, colloidal synthesis, solvothermal, hydrothermal, and sol-gel methods to create novel inorganic nanoparticles and quantum dots.

Conduct systematic experimental studies to tune the optical, electronic, and structural properties of materials for solar cells and photoelectrochemical systems.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate new photoabsorbers into optoelectronic and energy conversion devices. Perform advanced characterization of materials using XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy, EQE, PL, and related techniques. Supervise and mentor junior research staff and students. Maintain comprehensive documentation of research progress and contribute actively to scientific publications and reports. Support and drive collaborative research initiatives across departments and institutions. Required Skills and Qualifications: Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field, with a minimum of 4–5 years of relevant research experience (including Ph.D. study period). Proven expertise in chemical synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles or quantum dots, particularly chalcogenide and halide semiconductors (preferred). Strong hands-on experience with synthesis methods such as colloidal synthesis, hot-injection techniques, solvothermal/hydrothermal growth, and sol-gel processes. Expertise in semiconductor material characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, EQE, PL, UV-Vis spectroscopy). Knowledge and experience in solar energy conversion devices, including photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical systems, is advantageous. Strong research track record evidenced by publications, patents, or grants. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in diverse, interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage independent research projects.
