Electrical Systems Specialist

A marine electrical systems specialist is responsible for ensuring that electrical installations on merchant ships, yachts, and marine equipment meet international safety standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough surveys and inspections of electrical installations to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with IMO conventions, regulations, and classification rules.
  • Review and approve detailed electrical drawings and documentation for newbuilds and conversion projects, collaborating closely with shipowners, shipyards, designers, and flag authorities.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to facilitate effective communication and coordination among stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in maritime electrical engineering, including regulatory updates and technical advancements.
Requirements:
  • Relevant degree or certification in a field such as Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Electrical Engineering; OR equivalent experience as a Marine Engineer Officer.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical plan approval with a recognized classification society, demonstrating expertise in IMO conventions, regulations, and classification rules.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems design, installation, and maintenance, including familiarity with relevant codes and standards.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, with ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
