Job Title: Underwriter, SME & Retail Specialist

As an Underwriter, SME & Retail Specialist at our organisation, you will be responsible for managing underwriting activities and profit and loss responsibility for Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) and Retail segments. This role involves building relationships with intermediaries, ensuring quality underwriting services, and contributing to product development and innovation across multiple distribution channels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain good working relationships with customers, intermediaries, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist in product development, innovation, and testing.
  • Participate in relevant meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practices.
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance guidelines and policy changes, recommending changes to company policies and procedures where appropriate.
  • Establish and promote the company image with key clients.
  • Support the evaluation of risk for new business and renewals to ensure profitable growth.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimise risks and maximise efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, internal audit, and other governance and compliance requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent qualification preferable
  • Substantial experience gained within the insurance industry
  • Thorough understanding of class specific underwriting and procedure and reinsurance knowledge
  • Use of risk profiling and pricing tools
  • Use of loss models
