Job Title: Master Paintings Conservator

The National Gallery Singapore is seeking a highly skilled conservator to join its team. This role involves working in the Paintings section at the Heritage Conservation Centre, serving both the National Gallery and museums under the National Heritage Board.

The selected candidate will be responsible for conserving the National Collection as part of exhibition and research projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conservation Assessment: Carrying out conservation assessments, documentation, and treatment on the National Collection according to HCC and NHB procedures.
  • Exhibition Management: Managing exhibition projects, including preventive conservation and liaison work with curators and other stakeholders.
  • Skill Development: Providing supervision, mentoring, and training for junior staff members.
  • Research Projects: Conducting and leading specialized conservation research projects to enhance collection knowledge and artefact significance.
  • Documentation: Implementing documentation and knowledge management processes to ensure accessible information.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in Conservation, with a specialty in Easel Paintings and minimum 5-8 years' work experience.
  • Experience in providing advice on complex conservation treatments, supervising staff members, and managing exhibitions and research projects.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and impart conservation skills and knowledge effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that facilitate teamwork and collaboration.

This role requires a strong background in art conservation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
