Weather Routing Analyst

As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing vessel performance and safety at sea.

Our Weather Routing Operational Center is seeking an experienced Weather Routing Analyst to support our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge weather routing solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting operational data, such as vessel tracking and SatComs, 72–24 hours prior to departure.
  • Generating optimized routes and speed recommendations using advanced weather routing software.
  • Delivering accurate meteorological and oceanographic forecasts and assisting captains in voyage planning.
  • Providing remote support to vessels during voyages, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
  • Monitoring vessel performance, fuel consumption, and adherence to recommended routes.
  • Establishing post-voyage reports, analyzing forecast vs. actual conditions, and advising on claims when necessary.
  • Liaising directly with captains, offering real-time support and expert navigation advice.
  • Contribute feedback on routing software and operational processes to support continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of navigation experience as a navigation officer within the last 4 years, including Passage Planing preparations.
  • Officer of the Watch on Transoceanic vessels for at least 2-4 years, with experience in TransAtlantic and TransPacific crossings.
  • Practical use of weather routing software or services.
  • Rough seas navigation experience and strong feedback.
  • Experience managing vessels' fleet performance.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in a Weather Routing or Operational Monitoring Center.
  • Background as an officer on gas carriers, tankers, container vessels, bulk carriers, or passenger ships.
  • Experience as Second Officer and above rank.
  • Exposure to polar navigation.
  • Certified studies in meteorology or oceanography.
  • Experience providing onsite technical support to maritime companies.
  • Familiarity with operational and seakeeping software.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, JIRA, and data visualization tools.

  • Strong attention to captain requirements and contract adherence.
  • Ability to initiate direct contact with vessels via satellite phone when deviations occur.
  • Calm and professional demeanor under stress and challenging sea conditions.
  • Commitment to impartial reporting of any incidents or communication challenges.
  • Analytical mindset for post-voyage data interpretation and claim support.
  • Curiosity and initiative to enhance analysis with external data sources.
  • Proactive in suggesting IT/software improvements.
  • Passion for delivering reliable advice to captains at all times.
  • Strong documentation and feedback writing skills.
