Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Bulk Carrier Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of bulk carriers worldwide.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in marine operations, with experience in managing daily vessel operations, including navigation, cargo handling, and maintenance. They will also have excellent knowledge of international regulations, including ISM, ISPS, MLC, and environmental regulations such as MARPOL and IMO 2020.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of senior officers and crew members. They will also have excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues quickly and efficiently.

In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Implementing and maintaining safe, cost-efficient, and environmentally sound operation standards on bulk carriers;
  • Managing daily vessel operations, including navigation, cargo handling, and maintenance;
  • Ensuring compliance with international regulations, including ISM, ISPS, MLC, and environmental regulations;
  • Leading and motivating a team of senior officers and crew members to achieve operational goals;
  • Identifying and resolving operational issues quickly and efficiently;

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
  • A Master Mariner (Class 1) or Chief Engineer CoC with 2-3 years of sailing experience on bulk carriers;
  • 2-5 years of shore-based experience as a Marine Superintendent or similar role;
  • In-depth knowledge of bulk carrier operations, cargo handling, and global trade routes;
  • Expertise in ISM, ISPS, MLC, and environmental regulations;
  • Experience ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, including ballast water treatment, emissions control, and waste management;
  • Familiarity with regional regulations, such as EU ETS and China's emission control areas;
  • Ability to implement and audit safety management systems (SMS) for bulk carriers;
  • Proven ability to manage vetting inspections and DBMS;
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills;
  • Fluency in English and Chinese to liaise with Chinese clients; and
  • A willingness to travel and work on-call.
