The organization is committed to empowering them and enhancing their quality of life, while advocating for greater inclusivity as a nation.
The Centre offers a holistic range of services and programmes across the PWIDs' lifespan, including schools, employment and training development centres, home-based care services and community-based services to cater to the physical, psychological, environmental and social needs of PWIDs.
The officer contributes actively to the programme needs of Special Student Care Centre under the umbrella of Community-Based Support Services (CSS).
CSS is the dynamic and nimble service delivery arm in MINDS that responds to emerging needs of PWIDs and Caregivers in the community. Examples of services include Me Too Club, Homebased Care Services, Caregivers Support Services, Special Student Care Centres and Appropriate Adult Services to enhance integration and community living of caregivers and PWIDs in the community.
The officer integrates a range of person-centred and family-centric approaches and utilises Positive Behavioural frameworks to conduct enrichment activities for special needs children from age 7 to 18.
The officer enriches the quality of life of persons with special needs by supervising and providing direct physical care needs before/after school. They implement after-school care curriculum, adapting and integrating developmentally appropriate teaching and classroom management strategies.
They enhance clients' learning environments and support caregivers' needs in the care of their child.
The officer coordinates with community stakeholders, volunteers and social service providers in the delivery of centre initiatives, programmes and services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide routine caregiving to students.
- Supervise and guide students.
- Apply a person-centred approach, plan and implement positive behavioural support in ensuring safety and holistic development of students.
- Plan and conduct developmentally appropriate teaching, learning and caregiving activities to promote independence, health, wellness, and quality of life.
- Guide students in the development of basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills.
- Adopt creative methodology to engage and motivate students in their learning through interactive lesson plans.
- Document student's learning and development.
- Implement classroom management strategies.
- Engage and collaborate with caregivers to facilitate the continuity of care and learning between home and Centre.
- Build rapport with colleagues (Centre/School) and volunteers to foster positive workplace relations.
- Work closely with various sectors in the implementation of programs and projects.
- Support centre operation secondary duties assigned.
- Follow regulations regarding basic health, hygiene, safety and to administer proper documentation of incident report.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service training/professional development and service quality improvement activities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum O Levels/ITE/Diploma.
