Medical Laboratory Specialist

Description

This role involves performing laboratory diagnostic procedures and providing quality services to internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive laboratory specimens, inspecting them for suitability for analysis.
  • Operate the Laboratory Information System for result queries, order entries, and result updates.
  • Conduct waived tests and moderate complexity tests in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Notify critical values to relevant personnel.
  • Report adverse incidents to senior staff members.
  • Maintain reliability by preparing reagents and materials for special handling.
  • Respond to customer inquiries.
  • Perform maintenance tasks on laboratory instrumentation and notify relevant staff of malfunctions.
  • Order necessary supplies and test kits.
  • Participate in shift duties as required.
  • Stay updated on new instrumentation, techniques, and procedures through workshops, seminars, and in-service education.
  • Carry out instructions from senior staff regarding work procedures and tasks.
  • Adhere to good laboratory practice, regulatory agencies' requirements, and organizational core values.
  • Meet laboratory safety manual and workplace etiquette standards.
  • Evaluate new laboratory test methodologies.
  • Demonstrate laboratory procedures to trainees and new staff members.
  • Guide Laboratory Technicians, Clerical Staff, and Health Attendants in their work when needed.
  • Contribute to routine laboratory administrative tasks such as filling, processing deliveries, orders, and invoices.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Professional experience in a related field, strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently, proficiency in laboratory information systems, and commitment to ongoing education.
