Job Title: Unix Infrastructure Management Specialist

The primary role of a Unix Engineer involves the monitoring, troubleshooting and support of Unix-based systems with a strong emphasis on infrastructure management. This position is responsible for maintaining the stability and performance of systems in a Command Centre environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 24/7 operational support for Unix servers and supporting infrastructure.
  • Monitoring system performance, identifying potential issues and implementing resolutions within agreed-upon service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Escalating complex problems to senior teams where necessary.
  • Conducting regular system health checks, applying patches and performing routine maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining accurate records of incidents, changes and solutions implemented.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability and optimal performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of IT experience, including at least 1 year in a command centre or similar operations role.
  • Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux administration.
  • Practical knowledge of infrastructure management on Unix/Linux platforms.
  • CompTIA A+ certification required.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation certification required.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in virtualization environments.
  • Knowledge of shell scripting for automation purposes.
  • Exposure to backup, monitoring and system recovery tools.
