Scientific Fabrication Specialist

Job Description

The incumbent will provide fabrication support to the Physics Department's workshop. Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Manufacturing parts for Physics Department members, faculty, and external users or entities.
  • Fabricating items from technical drawings using various materials.
  • Operating modern manufacturing equipment like CNC machining, laser cutting, wire cutting, and traditional mechanical tools.
  • 3D printing job requests.
  • Planning new equipment and workflow to enhance workshop capabilities.

In addition to these duties, the applicant will assist with departmental administrative tasks as assigned by the Workshop Lead, Professors/Managers in the Department, or those specified by the Head of Department or their designate.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Precision Engineering.
  • Have at least five to six years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrate expertise in CAD design software, CAM packages, milling, turning, drilling metals (aluminum, stainless steel, copper, brass), and polymer materials (PTFE, PEEK, PVC, PC, Acrylic).
  • Show proficiency in 3D printer operations (FDM, SLA, SLS).
