Biomedical Research Fellow with Expertise in Molecular Biology

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Fellow to join our team at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be working within the Respiratory and Infectious Diseases Programme, under the supervision of Professor Pablo Bifani.

The main focus of the position is to contribute to the development of novel antimicrobial agents using bacteriophages as vectors. This involves working with Gram-positive and Gram-negative phages, identifying their genetic determinants, and engineering them to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, experience with bacterial cultures and phage isolation, and knowledge of gene editing techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9. Additionally, they should be familiar with bioinformatic tools and have excellent communication skills.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out standard microbiology techniques, including bacterial cultures and phage production.
  • Conducting genetic manipulations of bacteriophages, including knock-out, knock-in, and mutagenesis.
  • Working with bioinformatic tools to analyze phage genomes and identify suitable targets.
  • Designing and conducting experiments, including data collection and analysis.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop new research techniques and approaches.
  • Maintaining accurate records of laboratory activities and managing supplies.
  • Contributing to the preparation of reports and publications.

To be considered for this position, you should have a PhD in Biomedical Sciences or a related field, with a strong background in molecular biology and experience with bacteriophages.
