Job Description:

  • The Retail Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a store, ensuring excellent customer service and efficient operations. The role involves managing inventory, finances, and store performance while maintaining compliance with all regulations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Store Operations: Oversee daily store activities, including opening and closing procedures, ensuring the store is clean, organized, and well-stocked.
  • Customer Service: Ensure high-quality customer service by addressing customer inquiries, resolving complaints, and fostering a friendly shopping experience.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, place orders with suppliers, manage inventory to minimize waste, and conduct regular stock audits.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, track sales, handle cash and transactions, and prepare financial reports to ensure profitability.
  • Marketing and Promotions: Implement promotional campaigns, manage in-store displays, and engage with the local community to drive sales.
  • Vendor Relations: Maintain relationships with suppliers and negotiate contracts to ensure timely delivery of quality products.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in retail or hospitality management, preferably in a convenience store or similar environment.
  • Education: Secondary school, diploma or equivalent preferred; a diploma or degree in business, retail management, hospitality management or a related field is a plus.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Financial Acumen: Basic understanding of budgeting, sales tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Customer Focus: Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and resolving issues professionally.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights (up to 20 kg), and perform tasks such as stocking shelves.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to read, write and speak both English and Tamil languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a small retail convenience store or hospitality setting.
  • Knowledge of local market trends and customer preferences.
  • Familiarity with marketing or social media strategies to promote the store.

Work Environment:

  • The role involves working in a fast-paced retail environment with regular interaction with customers, staff, and suppliers.
  • The manager may need to handle occasional high-pressure situations, such as resolving customer complaints or managing peak shopping periods.
