Vessel Manager Job Description

Novo Recruitment Solutions Pte Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Vessel Manager to oversee the economical upkeep of LNG ships and their machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe, error-free operation and adherence to relevant class and industry standards as well as flag state administration regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Planned Maintenance System Oversight: Monitor and manage the planned maintenance system for the engines and the vessel's deck to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Statutory and Classification Surveys: Plan and oversee vessel statutory and classification surveys to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Consumables and Supplies Management: Organize the delivery of consumables, inventories, supplies, and spares to ensure the vessel is equipped with the necessary resources.
  • Repair and Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate repairs, changes, and defect corrections to ensure the vessel is in good working condition.
  • Charterer and Corporate Compliance: Ensure compliance with charterer requirements and corporate standards to maintain a positive reputation and avoid penalties.
  • Cost Monitoring and Control: Support the technical department's cost monitoring and control efforts to optimize vessel operations and reduce expenses.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, drawings, and catalogues from manufacturers and yards.
  • Classification Society and Shipyard Meetings: Participate in technical meetings of classification societies and shipyards to stay informed about industry developments and best practices.
  • Accident and Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into technical issues such as equipment failure or malfunction, and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
  • Annual Technical Inspection and Audit: Complete the onboard annual technical inspection and audit of the vessel on time to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Technical Department Oversight: Assist the Group Technical Manager in overseeing the technical department's operations and ensuring the vessel is maintained to the highest standards.
  • Project-Specific Technical Requirements: Complete any extra project-specific technical requirements and implement technical changes as needed, obtaining approval and certifications as required.
  • Technical Issue Resolution: Respond to technical issues that arise throughout the project and communicate with the creators as necessary.
  • Technical Repairs and Dry Dockings: Schedule and oversee technical repairs, including any necessary docking of the vessel, to ensure the vessel is in good working condition.
  • Defect Rectification: Ensure that any flaws that could impact the charter are fixed right away to maintain a positive reputation and avoid penalties.
  • Vessel Performance Monitoring: Track vessel performance and take appropriate action to optimize operations and reduce expenses.
  • Operating Costs and Vessel Budgets: Control operating costs and vessel budgets to ensure the vessel is maintained within budget.
  • Major Repairs and Dry Dockings: Arrange, oversee, and control major scheduled and unscheduled repairs as well as dry dockings to ensure the vessel is in good working condition.
  • Vessel Inspections: Visit vessels on a regular basis to ensure they are in good shape and running in accordance with company standards, and produce Vessel shape Reports.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Form alliances with various departments responsible for the same vessels (HSQE, crewing, operations, etc.) to ensure seamless communication and cooperation.
Requirements:
  • Marine Engineer Experience: Has experience as a marine engineer, with one year of experience operating an LNG carrier with a propulsion output of 10,000 Kw or more, and experience operating a big LPG or exceeding an AFramax Oil Tanker.
  • Engine COC: Owner of a valid Engine COC.
  • ISM, EMS, PMS, Repairs, and Dry-Docking Proficiency: Proficiency in ISM, EMS, PMS, repairs, and dry-docking.
  • Technical Understanding: Thorough technical understanding of different marine machinery.
  • Personal and Interpersonal Development: A motivation for ongoing personal and interpersonal development.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to think analytically, solve problems, manage time, manage projects, and make decisions.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Capacity to effectively and constructively address management of the company, exhibits interpersonal, cooperative, and communication abilities.
  • Power and Propulsion Systems Familiarity: Familiarity with the power and propulsion systems on board designated vessels, experience with XDF vessels and steam turbine plants is strongly desired.
  • Cargo Handling and Containment Systems Familiarity: Familiarity with the systems and equipment for handling and containing cargo aboard designated vessels.
