Research Position in Southeast Asia's Energy Transitions

We are seeking a highly qualified Researcher to join our team and contribute to the study of socio-political, security and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will undertake research on Southeast Asia's energy transitions within the broader framework of a green recovery, focusing on the nexus between energy and climate and the advancement of regional energy cooperation.

This position entails analysing the political, economic, social, technological, and/or policy dimensions of planned energy transitions in the region. Country-specific expertise within Southeast Asia will be considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and provide analysis in consultation with colleagues.
  • Contribute regularly to our research products, including commentaries, perspectives, and trend analyses.
  • Assist in managing external grants and stakeholder expectations.
  • Liaise and coordinate the programme's research agenda.
  • Contribute to our collective research efforts, including media engagements, briefings to government agencies, overseas visitors and delegations, and reports.
  • Plan and organise seminars, workshops, and outreach activities in accordance with our mission.

Requirements:

To be considered for this role, applicants should have a PhD degree in Climate Science, Climate Policy, Environmental Science, Energy, Public Policy; International Relations; Economics or related disciplines.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in climate change-related research is also required. The successful candidate will have strong interest in the nexus between climate change and energy, as well as strong interdisciplinary work and good track record in research and publications.

Excellent communication and writing skills in English are essential, with working knowledge of other Southeast Asian languages an advantage. A team player with good interpersonal and networking skills is also required.
