About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled culinary professional to lead our pastry team and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and sanitation in the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain excellence in food preparation, presentation, and quality as set by our Pastry Chef.
  • Serve as a mentor to the kitchen team responsible for pastries and desserts.
  • Collaborate with sous chefs to manage the wider kitchen operations.
  • Prepare and produce varying quantities of bread, pastries, cookies, desserts, and other baked goods according to recipes and customer requests.
  • Plan out the week: plan prep, staff absences, and assign duties to the team.
  • Oversee the pastry section of the kitchen.
  • Develop innovative ideas for new pastry dishes.
  • Bring inspiration and creativity to the kitchen.
  • Assist with weekly ordering, stock rotation, receiving, and correct storage of produce.
  • Ensure all cool rooms, fridges, freezers, and dry store areas are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Ensure all food is prepared in line with standard recipes to maintain food costs and product consistency.
  • Ensure all kitchen staff follows safe working practices.
  • Contribute to achieving and maintaining a reputation as a market leader in food quality and presentation.
  • Communicate daily with purchasing to control food costs, yield management, and ensure accuracy of all purchasing.
Requirements:
  • Culinary school certification or diploma preferred; practical experience and basic education considered.
  • Proven experience in a Pastry Jr sous chef role for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Good knowledge in various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and processes.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to produce high volume of work in a timely manner, accurate, complete, and of high quality.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skill with ability to interact with kitchen and restaurant staff.
