Science Support Specialist

The ideal candidate will have a passion for delivering excellent customer service and technical support in a busy science laboratory environment.

This role involves assisting teachers with the preparation and maintenance of laboratories, as well as supporting the sourcing of resources and materials for science classes. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained and stored securely.

We are looking for someone who is highly organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, and has excellent communication skills. If you are interested in working in an educational setting and have a strong interest in science, then we would love to hear from you.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain four science laboratories, ensuring they are clean, organized, and fully equipped.
  • Assist teachers with the preparation and lay out of apparatus and materials for science classes.
  • Ensure secure storage and safe handling of chemicals, maintain up-to-date chemical inventory and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • SOURCE online resources, multimedia, and activity ideas for teachers.
  • Liaise with external suppliers for regular maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Assist in procurement of items required for laboratory work, including sourcing quotations and making recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers to prepare items/apparatus/equipment needed for science practical examinations, performance tasks, and workshops.
  • Assist teachers in troubleshooting equipment during lessons.
  • Maintain and account for inventory and consumables in the science laboratories.
  • Participate in termly and annual stores verification exercises with the Science department and Fixed Asset Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Education: GCE 'O' Level Certificate with 4 passes (including English) or equivalent.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge: Knowledge in stores/resource management and procurement.
  • Preferred Skills: Knowledge and skills in handling science apparatus and equipment, laboratory safety procedures, and participation in school external safety validations.
