Imagine working in a vibrant and collaborative environment where you impact lives through the stories you tell. We are seeking an experienced journalist to join our Foreign desk leadership team at The Straits Times, shaping its regional and international coverage.
As a key member of our team, you will work closely with editors and a network of correspondents across Asia-Pacific, Europe and America to make sense of fast-moving developments and tell those stories with a distinctive voice.
The role has a particular focus on Southeast Asia, where you will guide foreign correspondents in identifying and producing original stories that offer an accurate picture of how people live, work and play, as well as mega-trends sweeping through the region.
You will help correspondents sensemake and connect the dots between what is happening in their respective patches and other parts of the world.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conceptualising and editing exclusive news reports, features and multimedia content
- Planning ahead and coming up with creative ways of covering major news events and developments
- Coordinating with other teams in the newsroom to put together integrated multimedia and longform projects
- Mentoring younger editors on the desk
What do we look for?
We want someone with at least 12 years of experience in journalism and related fields, preferably with field experience as a correspondent in a Southeast Asia country. A well-honed news sense and strong leadership skills are essential.
Other qualities we value include:
- A keen interest and thorough knowledge of the international news agenda
- The ability to take on complex topics and make them accessible to general-interest readers
- Excellent editorial skills and the ability to edit raw copy into compelling stories
This is a unique opportunity to grow your career in a dynamic and respected media organisation.
