Lead Manipulation System Developer

The ideal candidate will spearhead the development of manipulation systems for autonomous mobile robots. This entails motion planning, grasp planning, vision-guided manipulation, and safety-critical control of robotic arms and end-effectors.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Motion Planning and Grasp Strategy Design:
    • Implement robust motion planning algorithms using MoveIt and ROS 2.
    • Design effective grasp strategies for manipulating objects with varying shapes and sizes.
  • Vision-Guided Manipulation and Object Detection:
    • Develop and integrate computer vision algorithms for detecting object poses and shapes.
    • Integrate these algorithms into the robotic manipulation pipeline for seamless execution.
  • Safety-Critical Control and Path Optimization:
    • Implement force-torque control and compliant motions to ensure safe interaction with surfaces.
    • Optimize path planning algorithms (OMPL, STOMP) for efficient collision-free arm motions in tight spaces.
  • Behavior Tree-Based Task Execution and Safety Monitors:
    • Architect behavior tree-based task execution for manipulation workflows.
    • Integrate safety monitors (torque limits, emergency stops) into the manipulation stack.
  • Communication and Real-World Testing:
    • Work with embedded teams to ensure low-latency communication between manipulators and sensors.
    • Conduct real-world testing in fields and refine manipulation robustness.
  • API Development for UI Integration:
    • Create APIs to interface with 3rd-party UI dashboards.
