Theatre Technician Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Theatre Technician to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and ensure the smooth running of technical aspects of auditorium and black box theatres on a day-to-day operation as well as during internal and external events.
  • Design and operate sound, lighting and other effects during performances, as directed by members of creative and production teams.
  • Help source, build and furnish events and performances with appropriate lighting, sound and scenery as needed.
  • Help maintain and update the lighting, sound, costume, property and set inventories of the Drama Department.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with Nexus' Health & Safety Policy and promote a culture of safety.
  • Attend production meetings and regular technical department meetings as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A relevant diploma or higher education qualification.
  • A thorough understanding of the production process and theatre production techniques.
  • Proficiency in lighting, sound, rigging, and stage machinery.
  • Problem-Solving Skills; ability to troubleshoot equipment quickly under pressure.
  • Attention to detail – Ensuring cues, setups, and equipment checks are accurate.
  • Experience with sound and lighting design and digital cameras.
  • Safety Awareness – Understanding of theatre health and safety protocols, including working at heights and electrical safety.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant working experience.
  • A demonstrated and genuine liking and appreciation of children and young adults.
  • A good understanding and proficiency in English. Clear, concise communication is essential.
  • Physical Stamina – Ability to lift, carry, and set up heavy equipment, and work long extended hours.
