Job Title: Senior Cargo Underwriter
We are seeking an experienced Senior Cargo Underwriter to join our team. This role demands a strategic thinker who can drive profitable growth, foster strong relationships with intermediaries, and contribute to the development of innovative insurance solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of class specific underwriting and procedure, as well as reinsurance knowledge. They will also have experience in using risk profiling and pricing tools, and loss models.
The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting activities and P&L responsibility of the marine cargo, and Transport Operator Liability products. They will also be responsible for managing UW relationship with intermediaries and business partners in the area of underwriting service delivery, product development and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite marine cargo and Transport Operator Liability products.
  • Manage UW relationship with intermediaries and business partners.
  • Develop overall business relationship with brokers, agents and Financial Advisors in the area of Growth.
  • Evaluate risk for new business & renewals in accordance with standards, to ensure profitable growth.
  • Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately.
  • Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.

Requirements:
  • Degree or equivalent qualification preferable.
  • Working experience with substantial experience gained within the insurance industry.
  • Thorough understanding of class specific underwriting and procedure and reinsurance knowledge.
  • Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, interpersonal, communication, and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use for decision-making.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
