Job Description

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) offers the first Materials Engineering degree in Singapore under the division of Materials Engineering. The increasing demand for materials engineers led to the elevation of the division to a full-fledged engineering school in 2000. The School of Materials Engineering (MSE) is one of the world's largest Materials Engineering departments.

This role supports daily operations and all aspects of safety in MSE by conducting housekeeping and safety inspections for all laboratories and graduate offices. This ensures research can be performed in a safe, conducive, and excellent environment. Additionally, this position conducts practical sessions for undergraduate/postgraduate laboratory modules.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supports the development and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), SOPs, and safety guidelines.
  • Reviews and approves lab access and updates safety training results.
  • Addresses safety queries, conducts safety inspections, and provides safety training.
  • Organizes and arranges safety drills, safety meetings, and promotes a safety culture.
  • Participates in incident investigations and follows up on corrective actions.
  • Participates as a member of the First Aid and Spill Response Team under the Emergency Response Team.
Equipment Handling:
  • Provides training and consultation on equipment use and maintenance.
  • Schedules routine maintenance, coordinates repairs, and generates equipment reports.
  • Sources and procures equipment consumables.
Undergraduate Student Support:
  • Provides equipment training and support for undergraduate experiments.
  • Inspects and sets up equipment, guiding students during experiments.
Requirements:
  • A recognized degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge in mechanical, electrical, biological, and chemical safety.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience managing laboratory safety and equipment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Efficient problem solver.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Good initiative, service-oriented mindset, teamwork, and attitude to work.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge and expertise with various software, hardware, and applications would be advantageous.
