The Head of Laboratories at the School ofMechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), NTU, is a seniorleadership role overseeing the strategic management and developmentof MAE's laboratory cluster, comprising six cutting-edgefacilities. This role is integral to advancing MAE's mission todrive innovation, strengthen research capabilities, and ensureoperational excellence while aligning with Singapore's RIE2025strategy.

KeyResponsibilities:

StrategicLeadership & Multi-StakeholderCollaboration
  • Develop andexecute long-term strategies for the laboratory cluster to enhanceits alignment with MAE's academic, research, and industry-focusedobjectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams offaculty, technical staff, safety officers, and administrativepersonnel to ensure seamless coordination and optimal resourceutilization across all labs.
  • Drive high-impactinitiatives, including the development of new laboratorycapabilities, to maintain MAE's competitive edge in advancedmanufacturing, aerospace, and roboticsresearch.
  • Establish and implement robustpolicies, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirementswhile fostering a culture of innovation andexcellence.

Safety, SpaceOptimization, and FinancialOversight
  • Oversee theimplementation of stringent safety protocols and risk managementpractices, ensuring compliance with local and internationalstandards (e.g., ISO 45001:2018).
  • Lead spaceutilization strategies, proposing and managing large-scale facilityupgrades and optimizations to accommodate cutting-edge research andevolving operational needs.
  • Manage complexbudgets and resource allocation, balancing operational efficiencywith the strategic deployment of financial resources to support theSchool'sobjectives.

AdvancedProject and ProgramManagement
  • Spearheadtransformative projects to enhance laboratory infrastructure,operational workflows, and technological integration, drivinginnovation and productivity.
  • Design and leadinitiatives for modernizing laboratory environments, incorporatingemerging technologies to support groundbreaking research andeducation.
  • Serve as the key driver ofcontinuous improvement by implementing strategic initiatives thatpromote efficiency, sustainability, and long-termresilience.

ExternalRelations and High-LevelRepresentation
  • Act as theprimary ambassador for MAE laboratories, strengtheningrelationships with industry leaders, regulatory bodies, andinternational institutions.
  • Plan and leadhigh-profile lab tours, engaging key stakeholders to fostercollaborations, secure funding, and showcase MAE's researchexcellence.
  • Represent the laboratory cluster instrategic discussions at university and external forums, ensuringthe interests of MAE are prominentlyadvocated.

TalentDevelopment and OrganizationalResilience
  • Lead efforts tobuild and sustain high-performing teams, ensuring the continuousprofessional development of technical staff andresearchers.
  • Introduce and oversee mentorshipand cross-functional training programs to foster talent growth andenhance operational agility.
  • Champion theadoption of a growth mindset, promoting adaptability and resiliencein response to rapidly changing technologies and operationalchallenges.


QualificationsandRequirements:
  • Education:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relatedfield.
  • Experience: At least10-12 years of leadership experience, preferably in an academic orresearch environment, with expertise in laboratory management,safety compliance, and facilityupgrades.
  • TechnicalKnowledge: Strong foundation in thermal engineering,propulsion systems, risk management, and safety standards (e.g.,ISO 45001). Familiarity with regulatory requirements for gases,fuels, and safetysystems.
  • Skills: Exceptionalleadership, organizational, and communication skills with a proventrack record of driving innovation, managing resources, andbuilding collaborations.
  • PersonalAttributes: Independent, resourceful, and adaptable witha strong commitment to excellence and teamdevelopment.
