Job Description

As a Senior Underwriter, you will provide underwriting support to develop and manage a profitable business portfolio within the specified insurance class.

  • Contribute to operational objectives for the underwriting function and/or business unit.
  • Develop and monitor the annual business plan for the portfolio, identify deviations, recommend remedial action, and implement it to achieve business objectives.
  • Participate in meetings to contribute to and support the development of strategy, share knowledge, and best practice.
  • Perform underwriting activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimize risks and maximize efficiency with continuous quality improvement processes.

The Opportunity

  • Contribute to the achievement of operational objectives for the underwriting function and/or business unit.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all customers, intermediaries, and internal stakeholders.
  • Evaluate risk for new business in accordance with standards to ensure profitable growth.
  • Identify new business opportunities and self-insurance prospects.
  • Establish appropriate measurement techniques and reporting systems.
  • Build strong knowledge of current legislation, best practice, underwriting acceptance levels, systems, and organizational guidelines.
  • Contribute to aggregate management and peer review processes.

About You

  • Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within the specified insurance class and provide efficient and timely service to brokers and clients.
  • Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviors and management best practice to support the achievement of business goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to analyze data use for decision-making with commercial acumen.
  • 10+ years of underwriting experience.
  • Established customer/broker relationships.
