The role of a skilled baker is crucial to the success of any commercial bakery or food establishment.

Job Description

A baker is responsible for preparing and baking various types of bread, pastries, cakes and other sweet and savory treats.

This involves following recipes, measuring ingredients, mixing dough, kneading and shaping, proofing, and finally baking in a professional oven.

Bakers must also be skilled at decorating cakes, making intricate designs, and creating visually appealing presentation for display.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cleanliness and sanitation: Maintaining a clean and safe working environment, adhering to health and safety regulations, and ensuring all equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before use.
  • Bread production: Baking different types of bread, including baguettes, multigrain, whole wheat, rye, and sourdough, as well as specialty breads such as gluten-free and artisanal breads.
  • Pastry preparation: Making a variety of pastries, cakes, and other baked goods, including tartes, quiches, croissants, and danishes.
  • Decorating and presentation: Decorating cakes, pastries, and other baked goods with intricate designs, using icing, fondant, and other toppings.
  • Inventory management: Tracking inventory levels, ordering supplies, and managing stockroom storage.
Requirements:
  • Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years experience in a commercial bakery or related industry.
  • Skills: Strong baking skills, knowledge of ingredient measurements, mixing techniques, and baking times. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity: Familiarity with professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders, and dough sheeters.
  • Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree or certification preferred.
