Desktop Support Technician Job Description

As a Desktop Support Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our organization's desktop systems. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert-level technical support to end-users for all desktop-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive first and second-level support for desktop and laptop hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade desktop hardware, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and software applications.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex desktop hardware, software, and networking issues to minimize downtime.
  • Evaluate and implement measures to ensure compliance with security policies, including patching, antivirus software, and system updates.
  • Configure user accounts, permissions, and profiles within the IT environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues and ensure seamless access to company resources.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions for software application deployment and system updates using remote deployment tools and scripting.
  • Maintain accurate records of support tickets, technical procedures, and configurations for future reference and knowledge sharing.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in desktop support, IT helpdesk, or similar technical roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows (7, 10), macOS, and Linux desktop environments.
  • Experience with common desktop applications (Microsoft Office Suite, email clients, etc.) and troubleshooting software-related issues.
  • Understanding of networking concepts (e.g., IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Familiarity with desktop hardware components and ability to troubleshoot and repair hardware issues.
  • Experience using remote desktop tools and software deployment technologies.
  • Proficiency in Active Directory for user management, group policies, and permissions.
