Job Description

The role of a Meat Cutter involves preparing, cutting, trimming, and packaging meat products in accordance with established standards and customer preferences.

This position requires expertise in meat processing, safe food handling practices, and exceptional customer service skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Cutting, trimming, boning, tying, and grinding meats such as mutton, poultry, and seafood to prepare standard cuts.
  2. Weighing, wrapping, and labeling meat products for display or special orders.
  3. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the meat department, including equipment, tools, and work areas.
  4. E nsuring all products are rotated, stored properly, and meet quality and freshness standards.
  5. Providing exceptional customer service by answering questions, making recommendations, and fulfilling special requests.
  6. Following safety and food handling guidelines as mandated by company policies and health regulations.
  7. Assisting in inventory management and receiving of meat deliveries.
  8. Sharpening and maintaining knives and cutting tools.
  9. Collaborating with other team members to meet daily production goals.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred; candidates with no formal qualifications may be considered based on relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of prior experience as a meat cutter, butcher, or similar role is required.
  • Knowledge of different meat cuts and safe meat handling practices is essential.
  • Strong knife skills and hand-eye coordination are necessary.
  • Ability to work in cold environments and stand for long hours is required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to carry heavy items are necessary.
  • Able to work weekends and public holidays.
  • Able to work night shifts.
