Job Description

The Laboratory Information System Officer is a pivotal role in providing technical and administrative support in Information Technology to Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

This position assists in implementing organizational and departmental policies and oversees the entire test process, from pre-analytical to post-analytical stages.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of laboratory information systems, equipment software, and other relevant software is required.
  • Optimizing information systems to align with laboratory performance indicators is essential.
  • Aiding in the implementation and upkeep of the laboratory information system (LIS), including test reconciliation from various interfaces.
  • Providing technical support to all laboratory sections, ensuring adherence to expected turn-around-times, especially during IT breakdowns and downtime.
  • Ensuring personnel compliance with policies and guidelines, collaborating with the Head of Clinical Laboratory and reporting officers on disciplinary measures.
  • Reporting and investigating IT system incidents, implementing necessary corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintaining the laboratory intranet website, dashboard, and in-house development software or applications.
  • Conducting training, competency assessments, and supervision of medical laboratory technologists and medical officers.
  • Drafting and reviewing documents such as policies, work instructions, bench guides, and forms.
  • Identifying and troubleshooting major issues, deciding on escalation to higher authorities when necessary.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent. Or Diploma with relevant experience and competency.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in a clinical laboratory, including leadership or supervisory positions.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting certified by recognized accreditation body.
  • Experience in training and assessing personnel.
  • Proficiency in SQL scripting and data extraction with Oracle database.
  • Experience in writing and implementing policies and work instructions.
  • Familiarity with Ministry of Health licensing, and CAP, ISO, or JCI accreditation processes.
  • ASCPi certificate is preferred.
