Job Title: Youth Care Specialist

At the Children's Aid Society, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Residential Care team, you will play a vital role in providing quality care and support to children and youth in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

Home Management:

  • Develop and implement biopsychosocial or educational programs in collaboration with Unit Leaders and Senior Guidance Officers.

Resident Management:

  • Supervise residents' physical needs, ensuring they receive adequate food, nourishment, and support with daily tasks.
  • Provide supervision and care to residents, promoting socialization, nurturing friendships, and supporting those who may struggle to fit in.
  • Guide and develop socially acceptable behavior in residents, adhering to sound behavior management principles.
  • Manage residents' behavioral issues using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Provide guidance and support for residents' growth and development, motivating and mentoring them.
  • Support the positive social and emotional development of residents.

Health and Hygiene:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Home's premises and unit dormitories.
  • Educate and reinforce acceptable personal hygiene standards among residents.
  • Oversee the medical and health needs of residents in the unit.

Academic and Cognitive Needs:

  • Oversee the academic needs of residents in the unit.

Crisis Management:

  • Provide on-site incident or crisis management when necessary.

Supervision Outside of Melrose Home:

  • Escort and supervise youths and children to and from the clinic, hospital, school, or external programs and activities.

Integrated Care Plans:

  • Collaborate with Caseworkers to support residents' integrated care plans through unit programs or daily tasks.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Undertake any other duties directed by Unit Leaders and/or Manager, RC.

Requirements:

  • Mentoring and listening skills.
  • Dependable team player with active participation.
  • Social services experience.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • First aid certification.
  • Case management experience.
  • Community development skills.
  • Home care experience.

Working Conditions:

The residential home setting is a 24/7 facility. Guidance Officers are rostered to work shifts, including 7am to 4pm, 1pm to 10pm, and 5 days a week with 2 rotational off days.
