Research Specialist: Coastal and Ocean Waves

The Research Specialist will lead an industry innovation research project focused on storm surge modeling in the Singapore Sea. This role involves developing applied research skills relevant to industry demands while working on projects related to coastal and ocean wave modeling using Delft3D software.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and validate numerical models for wave propagation, storm surge modeling, and coastal dynamics using Delft3D and SWAN software.
  2. Build a database of sea level anomaly with extreme weather conditions using the developed numerical model.
  3. Analyze climate, ocean wave, and coastal data to enhance model accuracy.
  4. Conduct research to improve wave modeling techniques and contribute to advancements in coastal engineering and oceanography.
  5. Evaluate the potential impacts of storm surges on coastal regions, including flood risk assessments and vulnerability analyses.
  6. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams comprising hydrodynamic researchers, coastal engineers, and oceanographers.
  • Reporting Requirements:
  1. Prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals and present results at conferences.
  2. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
  3. Work independently and within a team to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  4. Assist in co-supervising Final Year Projects (FYP) or capstone projects with the project Principal Investigator.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's degree in a related field such as coastal engineering, oceanography, or hydrodynamics.
  • Proficiency in wave modeling software particularly Delft3D and SWAN.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Research experience in coastal and ocean waves is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
