Job Title:

Cargo Securing and Heavy-Lift Engineer

We are seeking an experienced engineer to join our team as a Cargo Securing and Heavy-Lift Engineer.

About the Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for an accomplished engineer who can optimize designs, reduce operational costs, and maintain safety and compliance. The successful candidate will work on structural assessment, lashing design, and the use of advanced engineering software to ensure safe and cost-efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform hull and deck structure strength assessments, including evaluation of hatch covers and above-deck stowage of heavy and project cargo.
  • Propose and design structural reinforcement and load-spreading solutions for specialty cargo securing.
  • Prepare and deliver technical documentation, including lashing & securing calculations, stowage, securing & dunnage plans, heavy lifting & rigging plans, and structural analysis reports and drawings.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support for project bids and vessel evaluation in collaboration with business and chartering teams.
  • Liaise with classification societies, owners, charterers, and shippers to resolve disputes or technical queries on ship strength, load spreading, or cargo securing.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Appropriate qualification in naval architecture, marine engineering, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in project cargo, heavy-lift, or MPV operations with direct involvement in lashing and securing design.
  • Proficiency in Femap & Nastran (or similar FEA software) for structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with lifting and rigging design for heavy-lift operations.
  • Strong understanding of Class rules, IMO guidelines, and international standards related to cargo securing and ship structure.
  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance safety, compliance, and commercial requirements.
  • Demonstrated reliability to manage and complete multiple projects within tight timelines.
