Purpose of Position

Supporting traders of Thermal Coal in trade related matters, in accordance with the company's operation policy and within approved trading limits. This is a great opportunity for someone interested to understand the physical trading of Thermal Coal in detail, working within the global Thermal Coal team and alongside the traders directly. Candidate will be reporting to GM, Head of Thermal Coal Trading.

Responsibilities

1Pre-trade activities support (40%)

. Perform on-boarding due diligence process on counterparties in accordance with RtMI's company policies and guidelines.

. Support external/internal stakeholders' engagement in preparing trading contracts with the support from traders and in-house legal department.

2 Trade and post trades activities (50%)

. Responsible for assigned trading / operations and seek necessary approvals in accordance with RtMI's company policies and guidelines.

. Monitor and follow up on physical commercial contract status with counterparties to ensure successful contract delivery.

. Monitor and take necessary initiative to implement or ensure appropriate controls on commercial/ credit risks/ market risks are in place.

. Ensure timely reporting of trade recap/contract memo to middle office and accuracy in the entries of trade data into in-house trading system, collaborating closely with middle office to resolve any discrepancies.

. Collaborate with and assist operations team on the execution of contracts on day-to-day shipping matters (including Letter of Credit, Original Bill of Laden, etc.) related to the trades seeking clarification from Credit, Legal, or any other internal stakeholders as necessary.

. Manage external/internal stakeholder engagements and resolve customer complaints (if required).

. Preparation of reports in Japanese for communication and routine updates to MC Tokyo.

. Liaison with the Japan team for market intelligence in Japanese and provide translation to English for understanding of local team members.

3 Others (10%)

. Support with ad-hoc requests from support function teams and provide trade related data or information.

. Take initiative in supporting the colleagues outside of assigned responsibilities to enhance the total value/trading portfolio of the global Thermal Coal team.

. Contribute to ad-hoc projects or trading system changes/upgrades with middle office colleagues.

. Create reports as required by Global Head/Head of Trading. Perform other related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE

. Degree in Business, International trade, or other relevant fields.

. Min. 2-3 years of relevant experience in trading companies and familiar with physical trading of bulk commodity (coal, bauxite, nickel, copper, iron ore).

. Business level Japanese proficiency required due to communication and preparation of documents in Japanese.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

. Basic commodity trading knowledge.

. Business operations (such as flow of international trading, Letter of Credit, Security Trade Control, Internal Control).

. Understanding of the economic, cultural, and political environment that the company may face in the relevant markets.

. Business level proficiency for both written and verbal communication.

. Any other language skills at business proficiency besides English would be a plus due to markets handled.

. Freight exposure and knowledge of handling Bill of Laden, Letter of Credit, etc.

. Good financial acumen and balanced commercial mindset.

. Strict adherence to compliance.

. Excellent PC skills - advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as trading systems, and willingness to learn new systems.

. Able to work under high pressure, remain calm and methodical.

. Able to prioritize workload.

. Meticulous and pay high level of attention to accuracy and details.

. Have initiative and the ability to work with little or no supervision.

. Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity and be flexible to changes.
