Roles & Responsibilities

The National Dental Research Institute Singapore (NDRIS), the research division of the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS), seeks an exceptionally accomplished research fellow pursuing innovative research in dental and oral epidemiology. NDRIS aims to be a leading institute for oral health research globally, renowned for translating research into practice to improve oral health and general health. NDRIS is part of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) and the successful candidate will have academic career development opportunities.

The successful candidate is expected to obtain national research talent development awards (e.g. NMRC Clinical Scientist Award - Investigator), secure competitive international/ national research funding, and direct an extramurally-funded research programme in the field of the dental and oral epidemiology, causal inference, longitudinal data analyses, and simulation modelling. NDCS' strategic interests for this position are to work mainly with two large projects: (i) Global Consortium of Oral Health Birth Cohort Studies (GLOBICS); (ii) the Simulation of the impact of public health policies in oral health outcomes (SIMPHORA) that will potentially inform health policies and clinical guidelines.

The candidate is expected to synergize and/or collaborate with existing clinical and research faculty within the SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC, as well as seek new collaborations with other internationally renowned clinicians and researchers. The candidate will have access to core research facilities within the AMC. The candidate is expected to continue to attain exceptional scholarly achievements e.g. publications, grants, patents etc. The candidate will be required to supervise, mentor and guide young career researchers and/or clinician investigators to hone and develop their research skills.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. with a thesis focused on statistics, population health, or epidemiology.
  • Preferably with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) or equivalent degrees, recognized and/or registrable with the Singapore Dental Council.
  • Relevant and extensive research experience in epidemiology and statistics.
  • Knowledge of the mechanisms underlying the association between systemic and oral diseases will be an advantage.
  • Excellent academic track record in scientific publications, competitive extramural grants, patents, supervision of PhD/ Masters students, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract industry funding will be an advantage .
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
